Rondebosch & Porties attending the Woestynfees in Namibia

Namakwaland, Rondebosch and Port Natal are amongst the South African schools that will take part in the Woestynfees 2015 at Walvisbaai Privaat in Namibia. The festival dates are 08 – 11 April 2015.

For Rondebosch, who are being tipped to be one of the top school rugby teams in 2015, this festival will form part of a sequence of five festival games in the space of nine days, being with a match against DHS at the KES Festival on 02 April. Rondebosch is also down to play two games at the Wynberg Festival towards the end of April. Adding their big inter-school against Wynberg on 18 April to the three festivals makes it eight games during what will prove to be a very busy month.

For Port Natal, the trip to Namibia will be the first in the school’s history.

Northcliff and Volkskool Heidelberg are the two other SA schools participating in the Woestynfees.

@Anti Green: They were officially playing for the Skiids. Nick made an appearance for us, but couldn’t keep up with the pace – he’s a shadow of his high school self  .Stuart…well…he just was never gonna fit in.He was only good for funding the fines meetings

Good times…I only fully recovered from everything last week.

@Playa: You played with Nicholas Eire and Stuart? Had a many brandy and cokes with them at the bar. Flipping lost my kit bag and my shadow in that tent. Met a few Dale guys through my brother and they have always been true men.

@Anti Green: Hahahahaha! He improved…played a minute more per game than he did last year.
We may have crossed paths. I played for the Young Old Dalians team (The YODAS) in the Castle Lite division.

@seabass: Don’t feel to bad, Border School that year were bloody strong. Mark Andrews and co. I remember watching the craven week game between Natal Schools and Border Schools, Luke Smith banging Ice Capped Up and Unders onto The Flying Pigglet Coyller. Border Schools were massive.

@Playa: thanks bud :-D funny story from that game. The giant, blonde prop got injured and had to leave the field and was replaced by the flanker who scrummed our pack into the ground for the rest of the match. 8-O Some units from the eastern cape in that era!

Great to see a few SA schools supporting this tournament – all the best to all involved. hope to see more revivals of tournaments in neighbouring countries. I was really surprised to see well maintained rugby fields at government schools in northern Zambia recently – didn’t even know that they still played it up there – my local client assured me that it is still alive in local schools.

@seabass: Just checked the archives…28-0 against Westville at Saints…eish :-D talk about being thrown into the deep end. The 1990 team is one of our great products. had an unbeaten season. Steve Hall played for our Old Boys Vets side at the Cape Town 10s this year. Monster of a man…with a bit of a belly to accompany the size.

Good luck at Saints and for the season. I’ve been following Clifon’s progress with interest

@Playa: I played against Dale in 1990 at the Saints rugby festival. They had a potent team with Luke Smith at 10 and a monster pack with Steve Hall in it. Being my 1st cap for Westville it was a steep learning curve  This year I take my Clifton 1st XV there for the first team so should be special.

@Playa: We were there last year. Was a once in a lifetime experience for the boys and I would highly recommend to all schools.
