- A highly exciting first few minutes. A Bulls pass is intercepted by the Lions fullback Preston Karstens. He is however caught by pacy Bulls scrumhalf Embrose Papier.
- Lions flank Constant Bekkerling makes a noticeable start with two turnovers at the breakdown. The second one earns a penalty which flyhalf Wikus van Biljon converts. 0-3.
- The Bulls steal a Lions lineout in the Lions 22m. They attack with determination, bashing away at the advantage line. Bulls flank PJ Toerien has the best carry. Finally a pop pass by flyhalf Thinus de Beer to Jeandre Michau on his inside is the option that breaks the Lions D-line for a try that T. de Beer converts. 7-3.
- Lions’ van Biljon attempts and misses a drop-goal.
- The Bulls extend their lead just before halftime. Ball channeled out to the left is carried up the touchline strongly by lock Aston Fortuin. His pass inside is not a good one but as luck would have it, it bounces and rebounds towards the tryline off a Lions’ hand. The kind bounce is collected by Bulls wing Ruan de Beer who dots down. T. de Beer kicks the angled conversion. 14-3.
- The Bulls run a set move to the right. Quick hands is backed up by a strong carry and quality offload on the inside by big right wing Andell Loubser. Recipient of the pass centre Steadman Gans still has work to do but comes up with an excellent left-right shimmy to outfox the defender in front of him and finishes in style. T. de Beer converts. 21-3.
- Halftime the Bulls lead 21-3
- T. de Beer misses a penalty to grow the Bulls lead.
- Constant Bekkerling narrows the deficit for the Lions as he dives over for a try from a maul. Van Biljon converts. 21-10.
- For the rest of the half, the Lions enjoy territory and a fair bit of possession. Final passes and with it unforced errors let them down badly in what turns out to be a half that promises so much but delivers so little.
- Final score: Bulls win 21-10.
@Andre T: say again? which team is average?
Score was 21 -10, not 23 – 10.
@Andre T: Ja Andre, hulle maak my oud.
@Deon:
Avoid hangovers…………..Stay drunk
@Cappie:
@scrummie: Maybe they shouldn’t play at all on Saturday
@scrummie: You must be relatively new on the blog if you even read Andre T’s comments?
@ Andre T – Average EP you say ???, thats bit unfair towards them. If the Lions go 0/2 then that makes them weak ?, maybe they should play Griquas OR Border CD side on saturday ???
Looks like this is the real Bulls team playing today………not the one who lost to a very average EP side
