Hi Bungee. The GK player should have been updated ages ago – it’s the loosie Caleb Mentoor of Bishops.
The WP XV player is a big surprise – Jobello Ezeh of Tygerberg. A lock

Given the talent pool in the Western Cape, there will ALWAYS be players that will be unlucky. Looking at the 3 WP teams, I think it is fair to say that the selectors did well, considering the targets they need to fulfill as well. There will always be unlucky players, that will always be a harsh reality.

With WP, EP, SWD and the Sharks on “the one side of the draw” and the Bulls, Lions and WP XV on the other side. Presuming WP beat EP on day 1 and then the winner of Sharks/SWD game on day 3. And WP XV beat Griffons on day 2 and then beat the winner of the Lions and Bulls on day 4 – is a WP vs WP XV “final” on the cards. Has that ever happened?

I cannot believe the openside from Boishaai u16s have not made it into the GK 23.

For WP I think it’ll be Werner de Bruin: he played Grant Khomo at lock last year. WP XV is still missing a player, so it could be another lock/loose forward.

Both WP and WP XV have only selected 2 specialist locks in Dreyer & Burden, and Cilliers & Faul respectively – seems fairly risky. Which of the loosies would cover in the second row for each team?

Just a correction: it’s King-Carter Stoffels, not King Carlos Stoffels. You have the wrong AB flyhalf in mind 😉

@TheGoose (Comment #2) I assume so. Although based on what I’ve seen from Bishops this season, I doubt they’ll be filling many of those gaps. Paarl Boys should fill up a large part of the CW XV.

Are the gaps due to Bishops and Paarl Boys (and possibly others like Durbanville) selections not being included yet?

Very, very surprised to see Thomas Meyer miss out on selection in all of the teams. He’s been extremely good for PRG this year (I’d wager he’s one of the best looseheads in the country, not just in the province) and he’s only u17. Suspect he’ll have a point to prove on Saturday since Gim’s second team prop was selected ahead of him (as was Blanckenberg who played second team for large parts of the season, including against PRG, at Stellenberg until Schloms got injured). Also think it’s harsh to select Wynberg’s first and second team hookers ahead of Lehan Barnard, but c’est la vie. Happy for Pheiffer to be in die WP XV – instead of sharing time with another premier 10 (as EvB and Behardien will have to do), he’ll get time in the saddle to steer the ship at Craven Week. Think being in the second team improves his chances of SA Schools for this reason.
