THE LACK OF DEPTH IS STILL A CONCERN

@Rugger fan (Comment #24) Yes by all accounts a very good team and should translate into better open results next year. The biggest concern is the lack of depth. Winning A team fixtures is good but when B teams get soundly beaten, one wonders what would happen if the A teams are hit by injuries. The current first team is laden with talented u17’s. A few injuries to experienced first team players has had a material impact on open results. It’s no excuse and it’s something Boys High need to fix up. The u15 and u14 results are encouraging across all teams and this normally suggests B team players can step up. I still consider the College fixtures as the most important for Boys High. The open results against College were not good earlier in the year. Hopefully this can be turned around in the third term.

@Tang (Comment #23) I believe that team was also the team to beat College on Goldstones a month or so back. Good news for the coming years

INCREDIBLE COMEBACK FROM THE U16A TEAM

@Rainier (Comment #22) The U16A match provided the highlight of the weekend for Pretoria Boys High. After building a comfortable first-half lead, Boys High saw Michaelhouse fight back and take control of the game. The u16A team didn’t lie down. Instead, the Boys High team showed tremendous character, scoring a flurry of late tries to secure a deserved victory in a performance that demonstrated resilience, belief and the exciting potential within this talented age group.

Congrats on the Pretoria Boys High /14, /15 and /16 A team wins this weekend. Hopefully this indicates the slow awakening of a slumbering giant in PTA.

Nico Malan drawing a second week in a row – those coaches must be tired of kissing their sisters.

@Gold (Comment #12) PRG under 15 was rampant yesterday. Rather than revel in such a large points differential (like some in KZN do), I believe the # 1 priority of WP schools should be continued strengthening of all schools in the province to ensure as many competitive matches as possible.

@Kantman (Comment #17) Hi I cannot see this happening. It is difficult to see any weaknesses in this Gim team. This is not being disrespectful to Paul Roos but this Paarl Gym team is so well coached . I am amazed Pieter Rossouw is still coaching at school level. He must be the best school team coach of his era.

@OupaPB (Comment #16) PRG beweeg onder die radar, is lekker uitgerus en gaan Gim onkant vang want Gim gaan selfversekerd wees.

The Grey College/Selborne interschools has been canceled. Apparently a number of Grey College learners with swine flu. Hoping for a quick recovery for the learners who are affected.

The Bishops U15 group is decent. I recall they beat Paarl Boys’ as U14s last year and have been competitive in the WP league this year. The rest of the teams have really struggled.

I am surprised that their u14A team is not better based on their open recuitment drive and turnaround plans under Robbie Fleck. I would think with the resources at their disposal they could make some inroads. The CT league is very tough, but thought we may see some change in the u14 age group. Will be interesting to watch this unfold.

I hope we see a decent showing from Bishops this week across all the age groups – it’s good for WP if Bishops is strong. But I am very concerned when I look at their results to date: their u14s lost by 50 against Durbanville and their u16s by 70. It’s a shame that, with Paarl Gim coming up next week, it would probably be wise for PRG to rest a few guys against Bishops – how times have changed!

College need to be prepared for what is certainly going to be a forward dominant style of play and a lot of contestable kicking from Hilton.

Credit to the Knights for sure. They were composed and pulled ahead in the second half. Our scrum seemed to be in control from the beginning as well, and tough defence throughout. I think there is some context though for Jeppe…they have come off a very bruising 3 match run and then had to travel to Durban. NW on the other hand would have been dissapointed with the 3 point loss to MBC last weekend on our OBD, and this was our last home game, so had real desire and extra motivation. We also have had very few home games this year, so it would have helped for this final game. To think Jeppe beat Garsfontein early in your season, I know it is dissapointing. They prob need a good week off and might bounce back. Unf. no rest it seems.

Sjoe. Northwood shut us out and prevent us from going over the whitewash. I don’t know when last Jeppe have not scored a try in a 1st team game, we are talking years; maybe close to 10. Top of my head I think it was 2017 vs Helpmekaar, before that there was also 2015 vs KES. Horrible horrible showing. We could still be playing now and wouldn’t have come within 5 points of the Knights.
Reprieve this weekend perhaps against St Johns (only our 3rd home game this entire season) but they will be buoyed by their win at Pretoria Boys. As I said, this bunch shock me, in a bad way. Only God knows if we can beat St Johns on Saturday

haha and those predictions could be reversed for sure. The KZN leagure this year is so close. Yes KC playing well and could have taken the win vs Ville as well you right. NW played KC in a warm up I believe, dont know what transpired but I hope NW do enough to edge it. Will all depend on the day.

As I am an old boy of both Westville and Hilton I really hope you are proven wrong  Great match ups though. Don’t underestimate K on Stott. Westville were lucky to draw with them at hom. Westville in the last 2 matches against KES and Glenwood have scored in excess of 90 points and only conceded 3 and so are finally finding some mettle in their play.

The KZN match ups this weekend are meaty: DHS vs Westville (DHS by 7) MBCollege vs (unbeaten) Hilton on their OBD (College to end the streak) NW vs Kearsney (NW to edge a close one by 6)
