@Westville_Boy (Comment #20)
W.R.T Viljoen and Bester, I was mainly referring to the wider squad not as immediate replacements in the starting xv wing. I only got to the watch the first half and Dylan Miller and Lindsay Jansen looked decent to me, there’s not much they did wrong. The same goes for Schoeman, especially considering the conditions. I may need to watch the 2nd half to make a more accurate judgement but conditions need to be factored in regardless.
@Captain Beefheart (Comment #19)
For me they need to sort out wing and 9 i really wasn’t impressed with the 9s. Viljoen is not the answer thats for sure.
@Westville_Boy (Comment #18)
Damnit! I’m feeling bleak, let me go and guzzle some beer. Anyway, I guess that opens the door for a guy like Reinhardt Viljoen or Aidan Bester.
@Captain Beefheart (Comment #17)
That was a horrible injury! I am being told its a serious one more than likely.
@Bungee (Comment #16)
Really upset about that. He is one of the players I was excited about the most. I hope he returns in time for the u20 World Championship at least.
@Captain Beefheart (Comment #15)
Ja, it didnt look good at all. Wouldnt be surprised if this took him out of the running for the JWC. Almost definitely will be out for the U20TRC
Looks like Jordan Steenkamp caught a serious injury.
@Bungee (Comment #13)
Never mind, seems the stream was ended at halftime
@Snelvuur (Comment #12) https://www.facebook.com/GeorgianRugbyUnion I think this is the correct one

If anyone has the link for today’s match, please can you share it
@Snelvuur (Comment #9)
Very much so. Been keeping an eye on Josh Neill and geez, he’s been a difference maker for that Irish side. He is their main jackler and lineout operator, it seems that’s the only type of player we missing in our backrow, however , I can see Riley Norton fulfilling that role with JD Hattingh jumping in at lock.
Remarkably settled team already, with the tight five and backline basically sorted. The loosies look to be the one area that’s still being sorted, although I also saw that Kruger picked up a bit of a knock in the first game, so that could also be the reason for the shuffling there. Jooste will obviously come in for one of the wingers and Moyo will definitely be in the mix as well but, for the rest, the best 23 seems to be quite settled now.
@Snelvuur (Comment #7)
That will be awesome
The game is at 13:00 (our time) tomorrow. It seems that this one will be streamed, at least.
Mnebelele, Norton, Muller and Pratt included in Springboks alignment camp. Jooste also still u20 and included. Hlekani, Pead, Williams from last years team also made the camp.
Saw a few videos compliments of a parent at the match but hard to gauge anything from those other than the players seemed to gel quite well for continuity in the build up to a few tries
@Westville_Boy (Comment #3)
Hmm no tries scored in 2nd half, that should raise some eyebrows
35-0 first half.
35-0 full time….

I think it depends from union to union. I know for instance that alot of Lions jnr players have joint/shared contracts between the Lions and a university (ie Schnetler, Oosthuizen, Feldman, Gerber etc) And other unions like the Bulls don’t share that setup. If you’re contracted with the Bulls, you play for the Bulls only (although in 2025 the Bulls players that studied at Stadio tried to get Stadio into the Varsity Shield and most probably would’ve if it wasn’t for boardroom batlles)
Wanted to ask the SBR community a slightly unrelated question..
Is there an official agreement or way of work when it comes to being in varsity and playing Varsity Cup and signing for a Union at the same time? Since my school days I’ve heard theres a conflict, that the Unions don’t want their players playing Varsity Cup, but I mean surely the Unions understand (and encourage) that the boys go and further their studies? How does this all work? I ask because I just saw the UJ Young Guns team (and other VC teams in fact) with guys in it that I am pretty sure have contracts with Unions?
