Statistics show that only 0.03% of learners in South African schools will go on to have a sustainable career in sport. For this reason, the fact that three Hoërskool Eldoraigne alumni are currently making their mark on the international stage is both striking and remarkable.
Stephan Lewies, a regular forward, has in recent seasons turned out for Harlequins in the United Kingdom with great distinction. Lewies has also represented the Springboks. He will soon return to the Sharks, where he began his professional career. He has also previously played for the Lions. This move could see him come back onto Rassie Erasmus’s radar in the near future.
Another former Eldo learner enjoying a meteoric rise is Shayne Bolton. After impressing for Connacht in the United Rugby Championship and European competitions, he was selected by Andy Farrell for Ireland. This dynamic centre/wing is the school’s latest rugby export. Keep an eye on him in the Six Nations Championship, which kicks off soon.
Mornay Smith, the Bulls’ tighthead prop, is currently playing outstanding rugby in a team that has undergone a dramatic turnaround under Johan Ackermann. He has shown against several teams in the United Rugby Championship that he may soon be in line for Springbok honours.
Hoërskool Eldoraigne is proud to produce players of such quality.
