Homegrown coaching team for Brandwag in 2026

William Travill, an accomplished school sportsman from Brandwag, Kariega Class of 2007, moves up from assistant in the 1st XV rugby coaching structure to take over as his school’s head coach this season. His support staff are all Brandwag old boys who represented the 1st XV during their school days:

  • Assistant Coach – Arnold Kleyn: forwards

  • Assistant Coach – Wikus Viljoen: lineouts and rucking

  • Conditioning Coach – Heinrich Leonard: breakdown

William’s own sporting achievements include:

    • SA Athletics U/19: Silver medalist in 100m and 200m at the South African Championships

    • EP U16 Grant Khomo

    • EP U18 Academy Week

    • EP Sevens

It comes as no surprise that, after matriculating, he received a rugby and athletics scholarship to UJ, where he further developed the promise he had shown at school.

Heine “Rassie” Erasmus, who guided Brandwag through an excellent 2025 season—including 12 consecutive wins after three early losses in March—will take charge of the u16A team in 2026. That 2025 season featured a Kariega Grand Slam, with home-and-away victories over HTS Daniel Pienaar and Muir College, culminating in the school winning the second edition of the town’s Tinara Cup.
