I won’t lie. I enjoy your comments but I would encourage people to offer solutions. The ranking scoring per match is quite transparent above. One can follow each match contribution. So there is plenty of room to see the weaknesses or strengths of the formula and offer alternatives

For me and I think a few others who have followed the fixtures and rankings over a long period of time, one of the points of importance is a school’s willingness to stand up and be counted by seeking opportunities to play the best of the best.
When a school anticipates having a good first team that year, its great to see them seek more changing once off fixtures. A good example was Secunda in 2023 who did an excellent job of finding meaningful games for what they believed was a strong 1st XV.
This year we saw how Grey College had no choice but to withdraw from the Graeme Festival because none of the local schools who didn’t have annual fixtures against Grey, were prepared to face them. Its a measured approach and I respect that in the same way that a school tries to step up when it has a good team, they should try just as hard to seek competitive once off fixtures at their level for the season in which they are not confident that their first team are world beaters. This approach obviously does not help Grey or any of the other perennial big guns of SBR.
On with the story and one of the schools that was prepared to match their strengths vs Grey was KES. Hats off to them for this. Its always a big ask even when having a good team like KES has this season.
So if you look at the breakdown of the results, the KES defeat to Grey really punishes them harshly in the rankings.
Even if KES got 3 ranking points out of that match they would be in position 14 now. if they got a little bit more out of the Affies game, they would be up to 12th.
So I guess the goal would be to come up with a way to reward schools who take on powerhouses in a way over and above the match points itself to try correct this. This would be based on KES avoiding the powerhouses and opting to have two “easier” fixtures than Grey and Affies in a given season and in doing so assuring they score more ranking match points. We want the best teams to be at the top of the rankings and in my mind a big part of being one of the best is taking on those schools who are known for their consistent high ranking achievements. So to state it again, the idea would be to reward KES and other for simply running onto the field against the likes of Grey College, irrespective of the end score.

Midlands private schools are heavily favoured here…Hilton have lost to Kingswood, Northwood, Westville, Maritsburg College, etc… and they’re ranked 13?!?! Come on guys….

So, KES have only lost to Grey, Jeppe (won one lost one), and Paarl Boys, and drawn to Westville in Durban and they’re ranked 24th?!?!? And they beat Noordheuwel in Krugersdorp who are ranked ahead of them?! This does not make sense to me

Daar is min goed so seker in die lewe soos dat die SA Skole wedstryde met Paul Roos-Grey sal bots.

    GREY HIGH POINTS SCORED

I have elsewhere expressed my concern at how few tries have been scored by the Grey High backs this year. Looking through the Ranking list I note that only two schools in your Top 50 have scored fewer points than Grey which is ranked 25. Possibly confirms my concern at how few points( tries)
Grey has scored due to not trusting their backline?

Not sure if I’ve missed it, but do we know yet if PR/GCB will be full strength or will SA Schools fixtures clash again?

DHS are a good side seen them this year and think they are equal if not slightly better than our side that last game will be a good decider on what has been a very successful season…. should Jeppe win this team will undoubtedly be the best in the history of our school….. Although don’t much about pre 1959 but think it is well documented how poor we were between 1960 and 2009 but ja in the history of these very old schools funny how cyclical things are ….. Parktown are where we were in 2009 and with a fewer minor changes by 2013 we were signing a different tune I am sure DHS and Glenwood could tell a similar story especially around the changing demographics of our cities ….. I hope our boys can upset another *SCHOOL* on their home ground in two weeks time

I like your rankings Beet 6th in the country yay 😀….. think that is as high as we will ever get …. the is best of the rest with only the blue bloods ahead of us thank you very much for the high praise ….. let’s see if we live up to it we have our last home game of the season which is against Parktown this coming Saturday 27 July then a very tough trip to DHS on the 3rd of August….. tempted to go to Durban for that game think it will be a cracker .. if we beat DHS in Durban and survive what will be a very committed Parktown as they plan to ruin our crowning ceremony…. this will then be which already my personal opinion the best Jeppe 1st team ever
