Good planning & faith aided Hoërskool Rustenburg’s promotion to Noordvaal Cup for 2024

Hoërskool Rustenburg have earned promotion to the region’s premier league – the Noordvaal Cup 2024. They achieved this by finishing top of the Plate league and adding the 1st XV cup title to a job well done for 2023.

Thank you to Rustenburg’s hard-working, on the ball Director of Rugby Naas Olivier for assisting with this requested input below.

At the end of 2022, the role players at Rustenburg held a strategic meeting to design and implement the plan around the vision for Rusties rugby.

  1. TITLE SPONSOR

Without sponsorship and other generous outside contributiors, most good schoolboy rugby programmes would struggle to make ends. So naturally Rusties are very grateful that their title sponsor EBJ Holdings under Mr Jaco Pretorius bought into the plan and helped make it a reality.

  1. RETAINING LOCAL TALENT

Rustenburg still has a “platterland” feel about it. In terms of feeder schools, they only four local primary schools. There is also a bit of competition from local high school Bergsig Academy to enrol the rugby boys from these junior schools. Rusties do have a boarding establishment that hosts between 100 and 120 kids at maximum capacity.

Talented rugby boys from Rustenburg are the target of bigger schools and macro schools from Krugersdorp and the Oos-Rand.

For 2023, Rusties were more successful than in the past at holding onto this talent, which was a goal achieved.

  1. COACHING SPINE ALIGNMENT

Emphasis was placed on getting the right coaches into the right coaching positions so that the school structure could enjoy the maximum benefit of the coaching strength available. A good example was placing coaches who work better with younger students in the junior teams.

At the end of the season they gave themselves an excellent 95% mark for achieving this goal which had been identified and acknowledged as key to the success of the 2023 season.

  1. PUTTING GOD FIRST

Identified as the most important objective for their school.

It may not always fit God’s plan to provide a victory on the rugby field but the power of trusting The Lord and serving Him is a win all the way and has far reaching effects and even better when it is shared as a community.
