WP u19 team for the Bulls match

Western Province boasts quite a high profile team for their first round home match against the Blue Bulls in the Under-19 Championship of 2018.

A number of players just-just missed out on SA Schools selection last year. Old Selbornian David Coetzer tops the list as although he wasn’t considered for the SA under-18 team in 2017, he is now a Baby Bok under-20 World Championship bronze medal winner. Then there are the likes of Dian Bleuler, Bevan Prinsloo, Francke Horn, Waqar Solaan, David Kriel and Marcel Theunissen who were all red-hot for the best part of their final year of SBR with earning national honours.

There are a number of Eastern Province and Free State school representatives in the 23 but as usual for Province there is a very distinct Cape homegrown feel about their junior squad.

    @PaarlBok: Ek weet Ernst is n Gimmie. My klong het baie teen hom gespeel en ook saam in die Cravenweek. Hy is n puik kaptein.

    @CharlesZA:

    Jy is 100% reg hierdie kombinasies in die agterlyn was nog glad nie getoets in ‘n wedstryd nie (Bietjie swak van WP se voorbereiding vir die toernooi) David Kriel is loshande die beste 15 in die span, dalk die toernooi en was vandag uit plek gespeel op 13. Baie werk wat voorlê by 4-8, goeie wedstryd deur Marcel.

    Ek sou daarvan hou dan Henco vir 7 kan vervang en Marcel met 5 kan vervang.

    Scoreline flatter die WP. 2de helfte het Bulle basies hele helfte met 14 manne gespeel agv verskeie geel kaarte. Bulle se vaste 5 was te veel vir WP die eerste 50 minute. WP aanvanklik gesukkel in lynstane en het gelyk of hulle baie min al saam gespeel het. Vir Bulle het Van Zyl die haker, Combrink en 2 flanke lekker gespeel. Du Toit het op 9 ook uitgeblink. Vir die WP het Bleuler bal mooi gedra en Prinsloo en Horne lekker gespeel. Dit het beter agter gegaan toe Jaers en Coetzer opgekom het. Angelo het ook goed gespeel met die min kanse wat hy op vleuel gekry het. Ek is elke keer verbaas hoeveel groter Kitwanga is as die ander seuns. Hy dra die bal lekker en het ook n drie gedruk maar op tye lyk dit of hy nie lekker weet wat om te doen of waar om te staan.

    Boishaai spelers bewys hulself tans as uitstekende leiers met Adriaan Alberts die WP Craven span kaptein,Franke Horn die o/19 kaptein en Salmaan Moerat die 0/20 Jong Bokkies kaptein. Dit sal interesant wees om te sien wie as o/21 kaptein aangewys gaan word. Daar is natuurlik benewens Moerat ook nog Ernst van Rhyn, wat ook voorheen die Jong Bokkies gelei het.Ek glo egter dat Moerat deel gaan vorm van die senior Curriebeker groep, wat dit dus dan meer sin sal maak om vir Van Rhyn as kaptein van die juniors aan te stel. Enige oppinies hieroor ?

    @Beet:

    Baie sleg, die Sharks het ‘n baie goeie span met nie baie goeie diepte nie.

    @chief: unfortunately it seems like Le Roux Malan is out for the season. A blow for the Sharks.

    @Kattes-Strofes:

    MJ Strauss (beseer) en Divan Enslin (nie span gehaal vir eerste wedstryd nie) dit is al Boishaai spelers wat kort? Henco ook uitgelaat vir eerste rondte en Rikus is nog uit met besering hopenlik reg vir Vrystaat (21ste Julie).

    Kan iemand enige inligting gee rakende Le Roux Malan, ek het gehoor hy is dalk uit vir die toernooi.

    @Kattes-Strofes: Rickus het n enkel besering opgedoen by WB. Kan seker al speel maar dink nie dis moeite werd om kans te vat nie.

    This is a quality, talented outfit ! However! I have noticed a few big name players that is not on the teamsheet. These include centre Rikus Pretorius and loosie Henco Maartens. I am not sure if they are injured. Maybe someone can confirm?

    Then also that only two of Boishaai,s unbeaten 2017 team, no.8 France Horn, who is captaining the side, and prop Josh du Preez, is in the squad. I know that a number of them signed at other unions, but also know that some of them , who is not in the team, are also on WP,s books.

    Also noted that Horn is the captain at the expense of no.9 Vusile Dlepu, who was the Cravenweek captain.

    Happy for Brakkies fullback Quan Eymann, who is following in the footsteps of another Brakkies great fullback, Cheslin Kolbie. As with Kolbie, Eymann is not the biggest physical speciment, but he also has the natural skill set and flair of his illustrious former schoolmate.
