Maritizburg College for years didn’t wear numbers – their famous coach Skonk Nicholson said they weren’t convicts but that changed over the years – maybe Gungets can expand on this

This must be a nightmare for TV commentators – I was watching the Rondebosch – Bishops game and wondered how the commentators were able to do their jobs – even the ref had a hard time trying to identify errant players – I must say the Bishops Kit looks a bit bland and maybe numbers would brighten up their kit – No numbers is no doubt part of their tradition

Ouch! The Green Machine played magnificent rugby and simply destroyed KC in the process. I couldn’t believe the pace and skillful running of some of their amazing backs and loose forwards. All I could tell my battered son, who suffered another concussion this season and infuriatingly played on for another 30 minutes before being taken off (I wish the management would catch a wake up) , is that he should put the experience in his memory bank for next year. KC will definitely be awarded the carrot trophy this year and hopefully they should have more depth next season, even without the immensely talented James Hall and Tristian Tedder who should never have played on Saturday despite the lure of 50 caps. The prospect of a long term injury wasn’t worth the risk. My heart-in-my-mouth season is now over so I can chill and watch the Boks in real time and not a recorded version. With a few anal exceptions I have thoroughly enjoyed the banter and love for the game on display in the blogs. Until next year then.

Hoofseun by Voortrekker in Bethlehem. Eersteklas senter en eersteklas jongman. Hou hom gerus dop.

Here gaan n paar Blogger doodstil wees as border system gat sien

Went to the Wynberg/SACS game. I was really impressed with SACS who played with a lot of heart and tackled like demons making most of their first time tackles and Wynberg struggled to get across the advantage line, particularly with 8th man and Captain Timm not playing ( he was on the side of the field and seems to be recovering well). Player of the game to me was Wynberg centre Frylink, who scored the important try in the 10-0 win and was the most dangerous looking Wynberg player. SACS may have a few injuries from the match as a result of the defensive effort.

Best game of the day was under 16A where Wynberg won 20-12, however the score flatters Wynberg a little and the game was on a knife edge until the last few minutes and either team could have won this. SACS won the under 14 and under 15 games, the under 15 game was also a lot closer than the score indicated with SACS getting the bounce and a lot of the refereeing decisions, but SACS did deserve the win. I missed the under 14 game.

@jakes: From what I understand, Ver. Gim asked for the game to be played to the end and not be stopped at 40.

With that attitude I believe they will become a very competitive team in the near future.

The score does not tell the story of how this team took the game to EG. Big tackles and very strong upfront.

    Well done Gim.

@hilton: Too true. Of late I’ve had a few discussions with people about AC Blume, the Hilton coach. In an unexpected way this Kearsney result maybe helps put into perspective the challenge he has faced this season.

There have been a few one-sided games of late in KZN which is a worry. Hopefully this trend is not repeated in 2015. The u16 season of 2013 was a very exciting one to follow with unpredictable results, so hopefully more of the same to come next year.

@hilton: Ha ha no shame in proper rugby lesson, and Kearsney was the recipient of a lesson. The toughest is when you try a little harder and it just goes from bad to worse. I think Kearsney lost faith; and I saw some un-typically poor tackling. Interestingly I thought the Scrums and line outs were the best Kearsney had this year. GW with ball in hand were simply like watching New Zealand play Japan in 95.

Jimbo, your comment of 11 June on the “carrot” award; it seems as though Kearsney is now the frontrunner after their game against Glenwood. And don’t even use the words “injured” or “didn’t play”. No team has been ravaged by injury more than Hilton this year.

Dink Vrystaat gebruik iets soortgelyk. 50 punte, as ek reg is.

@Far Meadows: I was told it was because DHS does not have a free weekend. Kids are writing exams this week and (shock, horror) DHS decided academics was more important so did not want to play sport. They do not play rugby in the third term (soccer, which probably caters for as many, if not more, of their boys is the third term sport) so rugby for the year is finished.

The Boland boys certainly think they can win every game and their supporters expect the same (as stated in the last sentence). Overconfidence, disrespect and arrogance, now those are negative traits that one should guard against, glad we don’t suffer of those down South.
