@OomPB (Comment #44)
In a close match like that one can point to probably 10 crucial moments. Do think that there was lots of cramping etc but agree with you that the bench hit the ground running, those that were at the weeks, in particular scrum half made a difference at the time when they had to move away from kicking game.
@TWE (Comment #34)
Geen het niggles vandag gehad. Craven Week ervaring was vir hul goud werd vandag
@Roger (Comment #5)
Well good day gents, nice to be missed
My private life has been in turmoil lately so I haven’t had time for much else other than putting out fires (fires I’ve started, mind you).
To answer your question Roger re injuries. The REDS continue to struggle. I see Nathan (tighthead) missed this Saturdays fixture against PBHS. Jarrel (wing) got a full game for the 2nds, hope he’s fit enough and done enough to get selected for the 1sts against Jeppe this Saturday.
Real life is no place for “ifs” and “buts”, but if Marco had the good fortune to be able to pick his best XV, all season long, I think this years vintage would have been strong contenders for a Top 20 spot, maybe even Top 15. Worth noting the REDS have wins against Rondebosch, Noordheuwel and Helpmekaar, all Top 20 ranked schools. PS I don’t like quoting the national rankings but it really is our best point of reference.
Wing stocks are somewhat depleted with Josh Wilkinson still recovering from what looked like quite a serious injury. Josh is GR11 and one to watch next year. Quite the athlete, he is months away from running a sub 11s 100m.
So yip, still challenges for Marco and co to negotiate in what will be 2 very tough fixtures to close out a tumultuous season. Good win away against PBHS though. PBHS are well and truly back, their U14/15s are outstanding and worthy of their Top 20 rankings. 14B and 15B picking up wins too so they building depth. KES U14B has lost 2 games this season, Affies and now PBHS.
On a side note, I had a lengthy and detailed post typed out and ready to send but I’ve had issues posting stuff on this forum in the past, so wanted to save said lengthy and detailed post for just in case. Usually left click, hold and drag to highlight text, then right click and ‘copy’ or ‘save’ works. But not on this forum so I used keyboard shortcuts, CTRL C to copy and CTRL V to paste but I started with CTRL V so the entire post was replaced with some arbitrary banter I had copied earlier in the day…
Anyway, just thought this week would be a good week to touch base…with this heavily abridged version of the original post. Probably better that way, keep me out of trouble with the authorities…
@OomPB (Comment #41)
As jy my leer enige tyd. Ja well done aan daai ouers daar in SB.
@Grizzly (Comment #40)
Wat wil jy in die Paarl maak? Julle scout op die Bolandse Platteland. Kom vang eerder vis in Struisbaai en kuier bietjie by die SA skole vleuel se ouers.
@boerboel (Comment #39)
Kom se se hello, sal my pin location stuur.
@Wonder (Comment #37)

hang maar af v volgnde jaar se inkope wie weet?
@Wonder (Comment #37)
Baie geluk.
Parktown 12 – 17 Durham
Parktown 21 – 16 Northcliff
@TWE (Comment #34)
They should have a lot of confidence playing on higher level. Interschools is about on the day, history mean nothing.
@gimmie (Comment #31)
For reasons well discussed, the whole of Paarl Boys played during the holidays and brought back niggles. Another reason why Gim’s confidence for Interschools is so high as the nr 1 team in the country.
@OomPB (Comment #32)
Must admit I expected much tougher competition from Wynberg. Completely outplayed by a very dominant Gim team!
So dis nag vir Wynberg more.
Wynberg has an exceptional team, they were in the lead against both PRoos and Bhigh at full time… Gim are aware of how good they are and we respect them fully…it is going to be an epic encounter..we are fully loaded and not thinking about next week..this Wynberg team are proper…interestingly I prefer a proper game before inter schools rather than a walk over because u need to recreate the intensity after the holiday break.. it seems as if Boishaai have gone the other way and are resting several front line players..Boishaai will win comfortably against SACS and Gim will have a big fight at their hands…next week will be one of the most unpredictable inter schools in the history …is that not what make this rivalry so very special?
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #27)
Ek hoor hy was by verkeerde skool.
@Snelvuur (Comment #28)
Wes Kaap is soos die Stormers all show and no go…
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #27)
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #7)
Blykbaar klaar weer terug by Monnas…
@Ystervark (Comment #25)
He was only able to play a handful of games unfortunately. But did show some promise so excited to see him next year as his season is done for this year sadly. So might have a very decent centre pairing next year. Don’t think the boy from Glenwood is replacing the boy from Grey High that you mentioned. They’ll play together next year or the boy from Grey might move to wing again where he played for Grey High as well.
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #21)
Already got a top 13 from another school in the EC earlier this year (not poached, family moved to Pretoria). Unfortunately he injured his knee shortly after he arrived at Garsies, so they had to get the chequebook out for a replacement
Match of the week has got to be the Gim vs Wynberg match.
I think Berg had more than enough opportunities to beat both Roos & HJS so we know they a well drilled side. HJS scored a try in the last second of the match to squeak it & Berg fluffed their lines in the last 5 minutes vs Roos.
Are Gim up for it or do they have one eye on the interschools match. Think it will be a massive clash & if Berg can stay in the contest until late in the match it could get interesting.
For me the 2 best centre combinations in the Western Cape are up against one another,
Muller vs Ahmed, that’s going to be a humdinger. Hopefully they not carrying any niggles. Write off Ahmed at your own peril, top talent with a big defense, their could be some explosives happening in the middle of the park on Saturday. Looking forward to a great contest.
@Palma (Comment #14)
What’s the reason? Thats a long trip for a non-traditional fixture.
@Snelvuur (Comment #17)
n O/15 sentertjie hoor ek.
@wanza_15 (Comment #6)
well, we upset the apple cart on Jeppe’s centenary in 1990 on your home ground (the infamous James Dalton suspension) against the odds so here’s hoping for a repeat !!
WESTERN CAPE PREDICTIONS
Hugenote to upset Charlies
Stellenberg to pip Outeniqua in George, just (if not now, when) – also look out for the age group games here.
Oakdale to hammer Drostdy (but Drostdy to get their own back in the u16 clash)
HJS to kick into gear against SACS
Landbou to have too much for Bishops (posh boys don’t like the Plaas)
Paul Roos to pip Rondebosch at Markötter
Durbies to have far too much for Brackenfell
Swartland over Strand
Millies sans Sellidon to topple the Tiere (Tiere u16 scrummie was doing some nice things at GK – hope he stays there)
Parel Vallei to take a huge leap and knock over Worcester Gim.
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #7)
seker moeg verloor- wil opbeweeg in die lewe- verstaanbaar
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #7)
Moet sê, Gim ken darem hierdie storie ook redelik goed – het selfs in my tyd al die graad onder my se sterspeler gegaps.
Unfortunately the Daniel Pienar vs Port Rex derby has been canceled. Port Rex will be playing Ooskus Gim this weekend.
So gaan al die SA skole en SA Skole A spelers uit wees vir die volgende twee weke se skool wedstryde?
@Wonder (Comment #11)
Dis n Monumentale skuif daai….
@Wonder (Comment #9)
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #7)
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #7)
@Roger (Comment #5)
Hello Roger! Long time no talk! No idea where Brent is lol
Some light a the end of the tunnel from a KES perspective, I saw Sam Smith (Grade 11) made the Academy Week All Star team along with McGurk and a few of our joes too. I am happy for Regan, I was a big critic of his but I think he has really put his hand up in what has been an indifferent year for you guys. And the Chinedu Amadi, the star of the show and starts at 6 for SA Schools, what a guy. From the perspective of me your rival, it’s doing wonders for your confidence leading up to the 2nd , the last thing we need. Poulton got the nod for SA “A”, I think he is fortunate considering he’s been injured all season
As far as the 2nd is concerned, it’s gonna be HUGE. As we suspected, it is the 100th, they’re tipping it to be monumental and that is the reason they had the first leg so early in the season. There are renovations happening on the Jake White field (the field opposite the 1st XV) to extend the stands. I have no idea how it’ll actually look/work but they are busy. They say they are expecting a bigger crowd than last year which is bonkers to think about.
@wanza_15 (Comment #3) three tough games to finish a tough season for KES. PBHS, DHS and Jeppe and all away games. I really hope the injury situation has normalised – against Westville they had 8 first choice players out (so I heard). Maybe Brent can update ……
Backing Jeppe to get up over DHS …..
Gonna be a tough one vs DHS, but we have a score to settle.
Do Pretoria Boys dare to do the double on KES? Do they come in as slight favourites too? Ouff. Such a tricky away-day Boys High are – we know they are gonna sensationalize the occasion.
Some great opening fixtures. A few high profile match ups, as well as potential banana skins for bigger sides AWAY from home.
Selborne @ Hudson
Queens @ Marlow
DHS @ Jeppe
KES @ PBHS
