Great summary
What a weekend of SBR.. Obviously the Paarl-result stands out, we knew the Gim side were special but their physicality over Boishaai surprised me. Hats of to them on a historic win. Both Jeppe and Oakdale can hold their heads high. Charlie remains unbeaten. PR with another big statement heading into the big one. Big win for Marlow. Wesvalia keeping their momentum.
In the NV Cup, Menlo with a massive upset. Feel for Noordheuwel, but Menlo was due something after good signs early season. Important result for their program after the challenging past couple of years. GF and Monnas gaining momentum, not something that EG and WK would want to see, as they know how to play play-off rugby. Those losses to Nelspruit may perhaps have had a positive effect? NV comp shaping up brilliantly.

EG vs Monnas halfeind,gaan baie hard wees.
@4×4 (Comment #31)

EGJansen played with 14 boys for 60 minutes of the game and still put up such a big score against Nelspruit. What a good day for them.

And Gauteng in return a feeder province for the Paarl Schools
Menlopark did what….??
This is a turnaround.
DUINEVELD VS UPINGTON
Boland Landbou, 350 boys, 18 teams on the field today and plenty of Springbok Old Boys to boast with. No real budget required. Just a prestige school drawing boys for other reasons. 8 billion people on the planet, biggest Interschools on the planet by light years, Gim vs Boishaai. By far the best gees in SA too, and WP the undisputed SA Schools province by far over the decades, nowadays even a feeder province for Noord-Transvaal. Western Cape, three brilliant school rugby provinces (WP, Boland, SWD)=home of World schools rugby and, rugby culture and rugby tradition.

Great wen vir Garsies.@City Lords (Comment #25)
Hopefully beter than swimming in the Seine🤪🤪

How was the swim?
PRG 59 Landbou 20.
@wanza_15 (Comment #11)
No bad blood, no hard feelings. You are still welcome to come to the beach. You don’t even have to RSVP.

DHS 24 – 20 Jeppe. Still one of our best seasons ever!
HT PRG 45-10 Landbou

But big Respect and kudos for beating Grey, I loved your 7 and 8 that day…the whole pack frankly and Matt’s boot was faultless.
@wanza_15 (Comment #14)
Affies beat u comfortably…Garsies beat you narrowly, KES was a win a piece…so equal with them.
Jeppe hammered Monnas, but didn’t play Helpies, Waterkloof, Noorheuwel..or EG either…that’s Gauteng too bro…out of those 4 I wonder if you’d win 2…maybe, maybe not. Great you hammering Parktown and St John’s…but in Gauteng a joint 3rd is kind…it’s your best case scenario…I would say 5th on further reflection because I think EG could match your pack and strikers with what they have.
Maybe at home with bagpipes echoing you could take Helpies…but not away..even the great Jeppe team with Tyrone, Wandisile and the powerful Ricky Ngwabara got smoked by Helpies…(20+ margin)…although Hacjivah didn’t play that day.

@Kaya 85 (Comment #13)
As much as I appreciate (and enjoyed) the 2024 Jeppe-titans, I unfortunately have to agree. The list of top teams in the greater Gauteng is extensive. An away-win over DHS this weekend could perhaps sneak them into the top 10 though.. Would cap an already remarkable season for them, and their final ranking position will not change that.
@garsieboy (Comment #12)
REFS
This is going to be interesting to see if the schools can supply refs that are up to the standards that all the refs on the sidelines subject them to.
Can see more moans about home town decisions coming out of that region next week.
@Kaya 85 (Comment #13)
Best in Joburg
Joint with who? We must look at results and make an actual log then, common opposition home/away, aggregates, points for, points against, bonus points etc. We aren’t joint with anyone lol.
2nd best in Noordvaal
6th best in South Africa.
7th at worst!
@wanza_15 (Comment #11)
Maybe in the top 10 at a stretch … joint 3rd in Gauteng at best.
@beet (Comment #4)
I’ve just seen the garsies team for the weekend😬looks like they’re already preparing for life without their SA schools players with a few other interesting choices as well…and they have all but qualified for the semi finals so not completely sure this was the right move. I mean what’s the use of preparing for life without them if there’s not going to be any life. But we’ll wait and see I’ll be happy to admit I was wrong😁
We are going to beat DHS.
Then we are going to the beach to unwind and celebrate being the 6th best 1st XV in South Africa. They can come to the beach with us, no bad blood or hard feelings, but they must RSVP first, as we own Durban this year, it’s school’s and it’s beaches.
So Saturday will end the toughest season for Glenwood in more than 25 years, 1996 was probably on a par results-wise. Unlikely to beat College, but you never know in a derby, will end played 17, won 3, lost 14. A very young team of mostly grade 11’s learning the hard way. BUT all of this adversity will make them stronger. The boys in green will be back next year, hopefully back into the Top4 in KZN. Our blood is green and in 2025 it will be 115 years of playing rugby and the 115th birthday. Some other GOB supporters don’t like my criticism but it’s only because I want better from the school. I’ve seen a marked improvement in Comms from the Old Boys Association and school, with Whatsapp groups, trusts etc, let’s bring the the school back up! OGA!
@Buthelezi2 (Comment #3)
I think DHS at home could be one match too far for Jeppe Boys 2024…
@Jakes (Comment #5)
Jansen has also had a long season…battle hardened, with lots of players getting CW experience, it will be interesting to see how they close the season out…if they lose momentum it could be over soon.
@beet (Comment #4)
Helpies are going to throw everything at the Bere…and I feel Noordheuwel are going to absolutely throw caution to the wind. .the result- fireworks.
@Roger (Comment #1)
For some of Noordheuwel’s early season matches they were operating two seperate squads, so you will even see two matches on the same day in different provinces. There clearly was a stronger squad, but the other squad’s games were still recorded as 1st team on this platform…for their games at the festivals they then had a much larger group of players to choose from. I’m not sure if this system has really worked, and I’m also not aware of the match loads of players, but yes, a moer of a heavy schedule…
@beet (Comment #4)
EGJansen should just be wary of Nelspruit and not underestimate them this weekend as Nellies are on a roll. EGJansen do not want to forfeit their unbeaten season and possible home ground semi and final,so they should be playing hard as usual
Another big game is Garsfontein vs Helpmekaar. Garsies are already knocking hard on the door of playoff qualification but for Helpmekaar, this is their last match of the group stages. If HMK cannot get a win, they will leave the door wide open for Monnas or Nories to overtake them and clinch the last playoff berth.
All under the assumption that Waterkloof will join EGJ by booking their place in the semis this Saturday.
DHS vs Jeppe, Rondebosch vs SACS and of course Paarl Interskole will be the 3 best matchups of the week in my opinion
Fully agree. Add the last two rounds, plus SF and F, they could potentially go up to 27? Way too much.
Has Nordheuwel seriously played 23 games already this season (and still going) and quite a few of their players were in the various Lions teams too? C’mon – surely this is bordering on insanity! When do these kids get a break – that’s 6/8 games a month!!
