Garsies remain unbeaten North of the Vaal River

The Garsfontein Bere remained on course to qualify for the SDC Noordvaal Cup playoffs with a useful 39-33 home win against the defending champions Monument.

Garsfontein are enjoying another excellent season. They have only tasted defeat once this season and that was to Grey College who are so far unbeaten and the number one ranked team in the country.

The Pretoria hosts got the match off to a convincing start, building a huge 24-7 lead against the Krugersdorp high school by the time the hooter sounded for halftime. However when it comes to winning the Noordvaal’s premier trophy, it’s Monnas who have produced the BMT in recent years. The threat looms large and the Bere got a reminder of it in the second half as the visitors fought back to claim it 26-15, proving that even though they have inconsistencies in their performances, if the Witbulle from Krugerdorp get a sniff, they are a dangerous Cup team.

While the win consolidated Garsies’ bid to make the playoffs, Monnas cannot take a top four place for granted in 2023. There is just too much going on in a chase that is hotting up and certain to make the third term matches very interesting indeed.

EG Jansen are flying at present and likely to secure a knockout spot. Below them Helpmekaar and Waterkloof present clear and present dangers to Monnas in the race for the post season places.

On paper Helpies have an excellent team but on the field, they have a tendency to be erratic. Klofies have come out and surprised many followers of schoolboy rugby this season. They are no pushovers and are looking set to carry their form to a top four finish in the regular season at this rate.
