@GreenBlooded: Ja, better that than nothing. Just make sure it stays a contact sport, not a “contact sport”. For the latter College prefer Epworth …. just saying …

RIGHT!!! .. Bring it on, kickstarting the old chariot, Maritzburru here I come. There is 3 tons of ice I have to dig into to find a bitterly cold brew or 10. Later .. munch, munch later

@Gungets Tuft: In club rugby – you need 5 trained front row so that you only resort to uncontested after 2 front row injuries. Otherwise it is considered a non-arrival and the team forfeits the league points!! But safety first I suppose for schools – if GW don’t have U15F props then better to play uncontested than not at all.

@star: Recovery, recovery???? .. if you stay p#ssed you don’t NEED to recover :-)

Heading up there for pre-pre-pre drinks in about 20 minutes. With the calibre of the oke in my year there is nowhere to hide, except perhaps at Tafta.

I see Glenwood must also be playing some pensioners, asking for uncontested scrums in a lower game before the day even dawns … strange. Hear they have also cancelled some rugby fixtures, the suft must be epic tomorrow.

@star: I would like to think I weighed out quite quickly as well, I think I said I should best STFU. Despite College having two reps on selection, with La Marque also knowing the College U16’s quite well, I think they have been fairly done by with 4. In fact, if there had been another two in Kriel and someone like Thunder in there I don’t think there would have been a quibble (Certainly I think that Kriel being left out has suprised everyone) , so .. all quiet on the Western Front.

He must just keep his head down and work even harder.

@BuffelsCM: Met Boland die enigste gemeenskaplike maatstaf, is die ouderdomsgroep vergelykings soos volg:
o/16 Stellies verloor 5-36; SACS verloor 0-22 (hulle is maar ewe flou)
    0/15 Stellies verloor 14-17; SACS verloor 12-22
    0/14 Stellies wen 17-7; SACS wen 32-14

@ Pedantic- My bad- but do you think with Westville and College having 2 each La Marque could have unduly influenced the outcome. Bell the coach is quite a strong character  I must say I am shocked that Kearsney have no representatives. I watched them play MHS and there was one backrow player in particular from K that was hugely influential in their deserved victory. At least he should have been on the bench to provide the required momentum in those tight contests.

@Ploegskaar: Ja die 19As behoort ‘n goeie game te wees! Stellies kan SACS klop!
Ander games behoort goed te wees, maar ek dink SACS se O/16s gaan Stellies hard klap!!

Thought that Dixon and Sebastian Pau from KC should have made it ……Pau is a great 12 and has played provincial schools from Grey PE all through the age groups before coming to KC this year …..however , watch this space these boys will be hungrier now !!!

@BuffelsCM: Agreed, that ‘Bosch 6 is good, but I have honestly not seen better than your 6 flank at any game, at any level, this year. His work rate and physicality is unbelievable, every tackle and carry is done at full tilt for the duration of the match. I would stick him on an Atkinson’s in the off-season, but otherwise he is the finished product.

@ Westers- the Westville selection of 3 boys is about right. I know we had 13 boys at trials but a lot of them are fringe GK and I am sure will show their worth in 2 years time.( all things being equal  ) Very difficult to dish the GW selections as there is no GW representation amongst the selectors. It would be nice however if all the GW bloggers who were negative about the intial selections issued an unreserved apology. Even GT weighed in at one stage.

@Ploegskaar: I’ve heard the comments made to Emile yes!
I concur with the comments re J.P: if his son makes the GK squad it will be an injustice to the game and the other players being overlooked !!
BTW that R’bosch flank is an exceptional player IMO – he should definitely be the starting 6 !!

@BuffelsCM: Will post one next week Tuesday when the team announcements are expected. Heard that Emile was asked by a few people at the trials about the absence of the “red-head” LH Marko Joubert. Funny that the boys that played him and Carlo over the years, and at the previous trials, spent most scrums perched on the the shoulders of their locks, and yet got into the final trials. Note that Bellville is currently the 4th highest ranked U/16 team in WP, but only had one rep there in Ryan, while Boishaai and Bishops below them are quite well represented…. Then again, if you have the situation, as Tony said in his latest article, where 6 Boishaai 2nd team players are in the final u/19 trials, it probably says as much about the system as it does about the 2 Boishaai selectors that still allowed them to play in said trials. Representation at any cost, by anyone, as long as a school’s prestige remains in tact, seems to be the criteria for the amoral individuals involved in junior rugby in the WP.

Lastly, a message to Mr. J.P., ex-WP player/current talent identification officer for the WPRU: You never did the Province jersey any justice when you played in it and with your nepotism you have wiped your arse with it very publicly, just like Mr. W.C. and Mr. B.S. did before you. Flies obviously don’t sit on you, but the injustice to your son boggles the mind. Failing as a person is one thing, but failing as a parent is inexcusable.

@HORSEFLY NO.1: It was a very hotly contested position – all four in the final trials were good. For me, Voster from MHS was the best all round and must be pretty dissapointed not to make the side (even as a utility back) – he was one of the standouts for me at trials all round.

End of the day the selectors probably wanted to keep combinations together – the combo of Du Randt, Makendi and Morgan are very dangerous in attack.

To answer your question … not sure what happened with Kriel, had a quiet trial and was out of selectors’ favour very early on in the trials. Several top players seemed to be written off very early and got limited opportunities to prove what they could do.

Good looking team … the backs in particular look like they can make something out of nothing.
IMO the scrummies Simmo and Vorster can consider themselves unlucky.

Does anyone know anything about E.Marx from Hilton? He appeared from nowhere, played 20 minutes in a Selectors’ B team and never looked back – I didn’t notice anything outstanding from him at trials but maybe this boy has something special – he must be pretty outstanding to keep players like De Marigny, Nicholson, Dixon and Bell out.

Good luck boys – go make KZN proud!

    @Ploegskaar:Thanks Ploegskaar !
I’ll keep the rankings in mind when the Western Province GK team is announced.
I have it on good authority that the excellent flank of Rondebosch had to spend the last 10 minutes at loose head prop in the trials against Boland!! What does that tell you about the quality of the loose head props at the final trials ?
Bellville’s loose head prop was really treated badly!! IMO he as well as the no 1 of Paarl Gym should have been at the final trials!!

no-not again. At u16 level the Kearsney boys are shunned again. I believe that Dixon would have added a dimension to the team in that he can play 8,lock or even centre at a push. He reminds me of Schramm in that he has size.pace and good hands. Crazy. :?: :!: :!:He was in the prelim squad for the 1stxv before the boksmart rules came into effect.
