@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: The boys will need to put this loss behind them and come out firing against Hudson to set up a grand showstopper against QC the following week.Hopefully Hudson’s result against Grens is a reflection of how poor Grens was rather than Hudson’s performance. Otherwise, it may be a long afternoon.

Well done Selborne. We were outplayed by a superior side. I thought we lacked some spark, and Kwanda was definitely missed as he has the ability to provide that in abundance. We’ll just have to wait for May 2016 for that 100th win then…

Heads up boys, let’s round off the season with 2 wins!!!

    @the professor: Sorry, I don’t, and the long weekend will mean the school will only publish about Wednesday. All I have is what the Tribune printed. 2nds 3-68, 3rds 10-12, 4th 0-26, 5th 15-31, 6th 20-5, 7th 3-40, 8th 0-31, 9th 10-49. 16A 0-53, 15A 7-55, 14A 14-57.

I can report that Mr Waters was striding the campus with a smile from ear to ear (as only he can) after a narrow win for the mighty mighty U14E side.

The hockey you’ve seen. Happy to report an unbeaten season for the excellent 3rd side. They’ve got the core of last years side and have been an absolute pleasure to watch, the most fun I’ve seen boys having on a sports field. Grey gave them the best workout they’ve had since College lost to them in Bloem last year, my son has ended up with a massive shiner after colliding with the boy we hosted.

@Gungets Tuft: Hey GT, are you by any chance able to post the results down the line for all the Grey vs Maritzburg Rugby games yesterday please. I did see the hockey results on the College Hockey Facebook page but the rugby ones are seldom posted for all to see. Hoping you can help mate.

If you mean playing schools not in our area, the answer is quite a few. Started of the year by playing Paarl BH in Porterville, also played Boland Landbou and Outeniqua

@umbiloburger: It was great hosting Glenwood. Saturday was a glorious day in PE and we were entertained to great rugby throughout the day. Even though we lost all the matches I am proud of the way our teams performed.
Congrats to Glenwood on their performance, we were beaten by a better team on the day.

On a side note, how Palvie did not at least make the SA A side is beyond me. Anyways he’s still got next year..

@GreenBlooded: It was close. Perhaps not the freedom the CJ offered in that match but certainly the same fire from both side. That College scored 17 unanswered points in the second half made it that much more challenging for the heart. I hope the video is available, you would need to watch it.

You and me both!! I left College at about 10.30 – pre-test match lunch with some clients, a good couple at Rovers and then into the Tank. In retrospect it was a very bad decision. How did it compare with the 44-40 match for intensity?

Just two points, it could have been a win so nearly in the end….having said that I have absolutely nothing but praise for the boys when the effort was like yesterday’s full of heart and commitment for the jersey and your team mates. Win or lose the guys can be very proud.

I had the unfortunate experience of sitting in the stands near a Grey mom who knew far more than the ref and bad mouthed him and College for the whole game. When our no. 13 scored a brilliant skillful try she voiced it to all around her that it was of course because he is an “aap”- truly disappointing!

The Grey junior teams have such well coached backline skills and are always aware of the ball and their players around them, if only the Boks could have had that and of course the College 1st XV commitment.

The GW/FRAMSBY match was a cracker. All the games were close and fast. Marius Jonker was doing TMO at the EP/Lions game and refereed the U16A game which was great. He capped some abuse from a spectator in the 2nd half, which he dealt with. The guy doing the abuse…..the 1st team referee.

Eish…..that was as bad as me trying to give advice to the Russian Syncro team.

Framsby play a superb brand of rugby and their defense was solid. They did well to contain the U14A &15A teams.

@Pinotage: Goldstones has seen some epic and classic matches. For sheer drama and schoolboy adventurous rugby yesterday’s match makes my list. Brilliant advert for rugby all day, and topped off by the last match. I wish that one had been televised, it would certainly have drawn more fans than the display we saw from players and spectators at Kings Park later.

Sorry we didn’t catch up at all during the day, it turned out to be a lot more rushed than I expected, having to get to the Tank by 4 didn’t help. I should rather have stayed at College

@rugbyfan: Framesby will never “dodge” any game, if we did not have a fixture against any school like Dale or Queens there is probably a valid reason, such as number of teams for example. Framesby has approximately 500 boys of whom about 160 play rugby, accross all age groups.
Dodge sounds like being scared. I think our fixture list speaks for itself. In spite of not even being in the top 50 according to any of the rankings, we played many of the top teams, including nr 1. If there is one team in SA willing to play anyone it is Framesby.

I read an e-mail from our old boys association which implores us to behave tomorrow when we are in the queer part of ” Houghton ” when we all know that school is in Yoeville. I have to admit that I am very nervous in fact petrified we just have lost too many players this season. This also is the last game of their season and for many their matrics the can restore a dominance their school so enjoyed through the history of tomorrow’s fixture. They might shade it tomorrow as they take on our depleted side. But the love and pride we display will never be drowned out ….. For the brave nothing is too difficult get them boys

@BoishaaiPa:     The “boere” vs the “rooinekke”….those must have been interesting encounters.
I know very little (nothing to be exact) about PJ Olivier. All I know is they used to host the Grahamstown Eisteddfod…and that was our only link to the VG girls as we didn’t play Greame. We were very deprived in Grahamstown…when we played St Andrews we had to put up with the DSG girls whose school uniform was a turn off in itself…and then the snobby KC girls who saw us as little gold diggers…which we probably were to be honest

@Queenian: @Playa: In my days we often played PJ Olivier from Grahamstown…They did not have bad teams, but they disappeared of the radar completely. Our biggest rivalry wasn’t against Daniel Pienaar in those days either but against Muir College. …The “boere” vs the “rooinekke”…the boer war all over again. …That was usually the last game of the season and the fields were packed. (Muir was still playing on what is now Brandwag fields) They only moved later to their new premises. Muir had some pretty hot teams in the early 80’s with Garth Wright, Turners, etc playing. Cant remember all the names now!,,,getting to old!

@BoishaaiPa: It shouldn’t be an issue. Dale and Queens play Kingswood, who on a good day will have 10 teams, same as Greame…and the EL co-eds that play all the colleges. Maybe it’s just an issue of timing…there just isn’t space to fill those fixtures in either schools’ programmes. Brandwag are just too tough a bunch to avoid any fixture.

@BoishaaiPa: Agree with you there living in Uitenhage Brandwag does not dodge anybody but will agree with Rugbyfan on the Danial Pienaar and Framesby part.

Brandwag is well run and the ethois of the school very good. I do know there has being efforts in the last few years between Brandwag and Queens to get a fixture going so lets see.

@rugbyfan: I heard it was the other way around…They want to play but cant provide enough teams for the Border schools…Brandwag does play St Andrews on a regular basis, but they don’t play Grey PE either because of the team thing. I very much doubt those schools try to avoid a fixture…even in my days we would have loved to play them!

One thing after spending most my post school life in the Eastern Cape is for some reason and please tell me if I am wrong why Framesby/Brandwag and Danial Pienaar seem to avoid starting fixture against Selborne/Dale/Queens who I know have on numerous occasion’s tried to get them going.

    Mind boggling.

And as such Marlow is very guilty of this as well.

Good to see Glenwood are playing Framesby looks like it is become a regular fixture.

Although I am surprised that Glenwood are choosing Framesby and not say Grey PE who do not have a fixture for this week of the year or maybe somebody like Selborne/Queens/Dale as Framesby 1st teams are usually competitive but the other schools mentioned above would give them much better competition in all the other teams.

It was a little tough on the eyes watching PBHS / Maritzburg College from across the field (at least PBHS 1st wears black shorts).
I pity the spectators for all the other games – as PBHS & Affies wear very similar jerseys – and both have white shorts! Must lead to a few poor passes and decisions in over the years?

@Gungets Tuft: You are actually right, Hats off to PBHS for showing heart. I just hope they can lift their game, so it will not be a massacre.. One of the biggest schoolboy rugby games in SA, can become one of the biggest mismatches in 2015. On the eastern side of Pretoria EG Jansen will face Waterkloof 11h30 on at Klofies. Could be a cracker but without EG Jansens two SA schools players, it is not going to be an easy game. Then Garsfontein vs Nelspruit might also be a cracker. Rugbyman do you know the time of kick off at Garsies?

Is Pretoria Boys high going ahead with their game against Affies? I can see this game might even be stopped early due to a hiding PBH will receive. This used to be one of the biggest games of the year, this year it will be a complete mismatch unfortunately
