To put it mildly Michaelhouse are not enjoying the best of seasons. In recent weeks they have been on the receiving end against Glenwood, Hilton and Kearsney. Having watched both the Midlands derby against Hilton and the game at Kearsney a week later, it was quite interesting to note the differences in approach of both winning teams. With the big three private schools taking on the big three government schools, it’s an interesting weekend that lies ahead in KZN Tier-1.…
After losing 36-5 to Glenwood and 42-12 to Hilton, it seemed like things could not get worse for Michaelhouse as far as first team rugby is concerned. Well it seemingly has. Between last weekend’s Midlands derby and a round of KZN regional trials and training, House has lost 7 1st XV players ahead of their away game at Kearsney today. …
After Gauteng raced into a 4-0 lead thanks to outstanding efforts by St Davids and St Albans, KZN’s Northwood spearheaded by their frontrow trio put a spirited fightback to come from 11-3 down at home to beat a gutsy St Benedicts team. Westville backed up this first win in the compo with a very meaningful home result of their own against a strong Pretoria Boys High outfit. At 4-2 and with many feeling that the tail end of this compo will favour the KZN schools, it makes this weekend’s two games tie-breakers of sorts. …
The schools of Mike Fennell past and present have their work cut out if they want to achieve the desired results against strong midweek opposition.
Fennell the former headmaster and an old boy of KES took up the post of CEO at DHS earlier this year. On Wednesday KES are away to Affies, while DHS makes the trip up to Pietermaritzburg to face College.…
Westville produced their best result of 2013 when they beat a strong Pretoria Boys High 1st XV 22-17 on Bowdens 2, alongside their main field.…
KZN teams College and Northwood put in spirited performances against difficult opponents in the form of Pretoria Boys High and Jeppe over the weekend. However 2 more loses, now means that the Gauteng boys have a 4-0 lead with 8 to play. KZN look like they are going to need a European Ryder Cup team like comeback to win this one.…
Edited. Okay so your probably wondering what this is all about. Very simple, KZN schools versus English medium Gauteng Schools, eleven games, one on one with the aim to assign all-important bragging rights at the end of the season to the region that wins the most games.…

Enlisting the help of numerous bloggers from around the country that actively follow schoolboy rugby in South Africa, a list was compiled of the top 20 Easter festival matches that will be taking place over the next few days.
It was unanimously decided that the Grey College versus Outeniqua game to be played at the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival (KERF) on Monday, 01 April 2013, is going to be by far and away the biggest game of them all. …
It’s a really cool initiative by the organisers of the NWU-Puk Skouspel. Every year they select a team of stand out players from the schools that participate in the tournament. This year’s team turned out to be a blend of talent from all around the country.
Latest: Hanro Liebenberg (Drostdy) is named player of the tournament, Dimitrio Tieties (Noord-Kaap) is the top backline player and Ox Nche (louis Botha) is the top forward.…
Glenwood and Garsfontein have both had to deal with off the field pre-season dramas involving schools from their respective regions this year. With those matters now put to bed all the attention will be placed firmly back where it belongs: on the field of play. The two schools will meet in the main game on Thursday, 21 March 2013 being Day-1 of this year’s NWU-Pukke Skouspel being held in Potchefstroom.

Supporters got to witness schoolboy rugby at it’s very best in a thrilling match won 26-25 by Kearsney against Glenwood. The match had been billed as one of the biggest games of the KwaZulu-Natal season and it lived up to expectations in every way with the lead changing hands before the winning try was scored by Kearsney virtually at the death.…

09-Mar-13. Kearsney illustrated the importance of teamwork and a balanced approach as they systematically built up a 30-0 lead over 70-minutes against their hosts Northwood. Tries were scored by captain Matt Reece-Edwards, Thuthu Ndlovu and Mthokozisi Moloi and backed up with 15-points from the reliable boot of Tristan Tedder.…
09-Mar-13. Hosts George Campbell scraped home 10-7 against St Charles in a new fixture. It’s excellent that the two schools are competing again because past indications suggested that they are more or less on par in rugby. This match proved it. A very even contest just as the scoreline suggests with both teams enjoying periods of domination. …

Congratulations must go to the KZNRU for putting on a successful and very entertaining festival at Kings Park. It was well attended and the boys lived up to the billing by playing attractive early season rugby. It seems pointless over-analysing the results because of the format (2 halves of 20 minutes) and the differing motives of the various coaches coming into the games.…
The Sharks have put a great deal of effort into preparing and marketing tonight’s first ever KZN Top Schools Rugby Festival at Kings Park. The Union deserves praise for is work. The timing of the event is however not great, to put it mildly. …
