Sebastiaan “Basjan” Reinhardt, the former Paarl Gymnasium headmaster who came up with the idea for the Wildeklawer Superskole, has passed away this morning (heart attack). Sincerest condolences go out to his family during this time of sadness.
Prior to 2009, there wasn’t a strength versus strength school rugby tournament in South Africa. In 2008 Basjan promoted the concept to several companies. Wildeklawer, an agricultural company and largest producers of onions for the local SA market loved the idea and jumped on board. The first of five very successful tournaments to date was held at Paarl Gim in 2009, a year later it was at Affies, Pretoria before settling on Diamantveld in Kimberley as it’s home. Today Wildeklawer Superskole is regarded as the premier school rugby festival in South Africa with almost all the top rugby schools attending every year.
Thank you Basjan for making the dream a reality.
