BHP Top 50 – week ending 20 July 2013

There’s a new No.1. Affies’ dominate performance against Maritzburg College has given them a slight edge on Paarl Gim by just seven hundredth’s of a point. The log looks very settled near the top. In the teens, Wynberg and Grey PE have made big leaps following good campaigns at Cape Schools week. Rondebosch have gone through a bleak period and might be a bit fortunate to only fall seven spots. Their early season form has definitely come to their rescue. Maritzburg College and Kempton Park are other schools that have suffered major drops.

    1. Affies
    2. Paarl Gymnasium
    3. Outeniqua
    4. Grey College
    5. Dr EG Jansen
    6. Garsfontein
    7. Nelspruit
    8. Paarl Boys High
    9. Kearsney
    10. Waterkloof
    11. Monument
    12. Pretoria Boys High
    13. HTS Middelburg
    14. Westville
    15. Grey High

@boishaaipa, I am confused, Boishaai has played 6 of your top 20 ranked teams in 2013. They lost against 4 of them (teams ranked nrs 3,4,15 and 18) and beat only 2 lowly ranks ones (Wynberg at nr 13 and oakdale at 20)..There is no logic in their nr 6 ranking whatsoever..on performance, boishaai does not deserve a place in the top 10…

@Tjoppa: Presies.

HumblePie jou lekker ding

@Mike: Good luck to Grey PE – Is Grey PE’s No. 6 fit and playing? He is a very important part of that team.
Let’s hope this side can turn the tables on a very good Grey Bloem side!

@sacssupporter: apologies, I was told they didn’t play. Also Schinkerling is out, best lock in the country. Did Oosthuizen play, also a massive line breaker for them. Glenwood played them at Kearsney with all their stars and were just outplayed. I think the score was 43-12. Glenwood backs did have a good day scoring 2 great tries. I watched SACS vs Bishops and thought the SACS side was very well balanced and workman like, no match for a Gim side though…

I still do think that Gim are the best team in SA currently. Affies a very close second though. If only those two sides could play each other. Big game for Grey PE this weekend in Bloem.

@Grasshopper: It is not correct to say Paarl Gym were without three of their best players – Vermeulen and Bothma both came on for the 2nd half against SACS – the score was 17 – 3 at the time with SACS not kicking two penalties in front.
However when they came on they lifted Gym’s play to another level – wow, they are damn good! Gym scored 6 tries in the 2nd half and showed us why they are the best in SA.
Huge respect for these two guys and to Gym as a whole!

@Tjoppa: You are delusional. What that list, for what its worth, says is that the schools in the Central region, collectively, are on par or even stronger, rugby wise, than the other regions. At least you admit bias and if this had been a court, I suspect , with that argument, you may even receive a life sentence.

@BOG: Your case being? Your no 1, although 4th in country, is respected and have been no 1 in the central district for as long as History was compiled. So a no brainer there. 2 & 3 ages apart and the rest only part of the above 40 club. So what is the use compiling a top 10 list. Secondly the blog is also directed and bias towards its majority members. With only 2 or 3 bloggers please accept your position.

@WBHS Griffon: you would say that about Glenwood, leopard never changes its spots. Agree with ranking based on results so far, but 2 very significant games were not played in KZN, Westville vs Glenwood and Westville vs Kearsney. Results from that would have made a difference. Well done to Kearsney the topped ranked KZN school!

Oh, by the way and for what it is worth, I notice that the Central region(the one which is ignored) has 7 schools on this list, as opposed to 11 from Gauteng, 10 from WP, 5 from KZN and 6 from Border/EC. As they would say in the classics and in court: “I rest my case”

From a KZN perspective, this is pretty accurate with the top 2 sides in KZN, Kearsney and Westville at 5 and 10 respectively. I fear Glenwood could get 50 from Affies which may well push them outsite the top 20. Overall a fair reflection that seems pretty unbiased.

Paarl Gim are the best, they pumped SACS without 3 or 4 of their best players. Affies play Glenwood this weekend, they will overpower Glenwood and win but Glenwood will fight to the end. Score maybe closer than people think….
