Schools ask their supporters to behave!

Yip you read it right. Schools are asking their supporters to behave! Some correspondence that went out this week.

A message from the ODU Committee

Dear ….

The committee has noticed with concern that some ODs have chosen to make disparaging comments on the Bishop’s Facebook page. These comments, which are public and read by the Bishop’s boys among others, are derogatory and troubling, particularly regarding the school and its rugby code.

Whilst the continued support of the school through its various endeavors and engagements, be it academic, cultural, or sporting, is to be encouraged from all ODs, the posting of derogatory, offensive, or abusive comments regarding the recent sporting results is unacceptable.

The ODU constitution expects that the values and principles be upheld, which include unity, loyalty, respect, and good citizenship. We ask that in continuing to support Bishops, in whatever manner, you do so in upholding those values. There is no place for certain of the messages that have been recently posted in the public domain.

Let us rather encourage and support the boys.

Kind regards

Very interesting that this happens at two very expensive private schools. Aren’t these dads suppose to be the MD’s, FD’s, CEO’s, etc? People who are suppose be just that little bit better than the average Joe?

Is the demise of Bishops rugby not greatly exaggerated? I seem to remember them also taking a big score about 10 years ago (80 odd) vs HJS. Do you recall? Also, I know that Bishops have often had good first teams and A teams, but as a rugby club, have they ever been dominant across the board with their 14 or so teams? I’m asking…..I don’t know but I’d doubt it. The game has changed in the past 10-15 years. Physical dominance is of primary importance to retain the ball. That is not the Bishops way. But they also don’t have the boys to do it. Let’s be honest, that is one thing that Afrikaans boys are really good at (I know I’m generalising).

If you read it out loud and relatively quickly, it kind of sounds like “Schools ask their supporters to behave”
