Strand cancels rugby against Durbanville

April 2024

The bad news is that Strand have pulled the plug on Saturday’s interschools rugby against Durbanville.

Unconfirmed but it may be that Strand are the first of a few WP Premier B schools to follow the same course of action against Durbies.

Everyone has remained mum about the real reasons for this one but guaranteed as normal its to do with adults not being happy about what other adults are or are not doing coupled with those other adults not being too cared about the repercussions of their actions. Invariably the big losers are the kids who have no say or control over the situation and are minus a rugby match on a particular Saturday.

Anyways hopefully egos get set aside and this comes to a speedy, fair and equitable resolution.

Unfortunately the situation just went from bad to worse for the Durbie Rugby Players as not only DF Malan and Strand withdrew, but also Bellville and Tygerberg. A Friendly for which Bishops originally agreed was also cancelled by them on short notice which would have filled the gap left by withdrawal. Brackenfell also at 1st withdrew, but they eventually did honor the fixture. Truely a sad situation for the boys who want to play rugby, especially the GR12’s, and even worse is that all these withdrawals would have been Home Games for the Durbies, so these boys have played only 1 home game so far this whole season, and there might not be any other either.

Strand het wel teen DF Malan gespeel en hulle het n redelike gemaklike oorwinning gehad by die eerstes en eintlik maar by al die ander spanne ook.

This would be very similar to the D.H.S versus Glenwood stand-off that we have in KZN. Still not resolved after years……

Totally and as Beet is saying the losers are the kids. Obviously I don’t know the detail but I can put a few Rand on the table that it will be someone from Strand ( Stand😳) moving to Durbanville. Surely a interschool game should be a highlight for any of these children and I think it is very regrettable. It is well known that Durbanville is recruiting very strongly but surely nothing in this regard should cause the cancellation of an inter-schools game ?

I would like to know against what they are making a stand? The benefits of playing one another should outweigh any agendas of adults.

Maybe the Capies must start playing for a beker or two to sort out this nonsense.
