@Grizzly (Comment #64)
Ek hoop daar word baie gefokus daarop hierdie week by oefening veral by die verdediging in die middelveld.
@boerboel (Comment #59)
@garsieboy (Comment #63)
Die Bere sal beter moet verdedig,vernaam agter.
@Snelvuur (Comment #62)
@garsieboy (Comment #60)
Ek het gedink Garsfontein se agterlyn het by Noord-Suid beter as Affies s’n gelyk. My groot bekommernis as ‘n Garsfontein ondersteuner sou die skoppe pale toe wees.
@garsieboy (Comment #60)
@garsieboy (Comment #57)
Well done EGJansen for winning all 3 games at Kearsney this long weekend. That is not easy. 3 games over a 6 day period. This weekend they travel to HTS Middelburg again. Hope the team will be okay after a bruising Kearsney festival. What a hectic schedule they still have ahead.
@boerboel (Comment #49)
@Kantman (Comment #53)
@Strepie (Comment #51)
@Strepie (Comment #51)
Baie moeilik om die een te voorspel.
@JongMatie (Comment #46)
@JongMatie (Comment #48)
For me the backline was exceptionally good in the first two games, They did struggle against Paul Roos but one might forgot it was raining in that game so it was not as easy for passing, and I am not always so sure we know how to play in rain when in Pretoria, obviously the competition was also very good so it was always going to be difficult. Against stellenberg the one centre of stellenberg was defending for his life and did make it difficult but the backline still scored some excellent tries.
The forwards were playing well and the maul was going well, a team will always go for the easier route regarding what is working on the day.
I am worried about the injury of the Affies centre in the last game not sure how serious that was, I think he could have been the surprised player for the year.
Saturday is going to be interesting as Garsfontein have a lot of speed in the backline, Think it might be a close one as always.
Klipharde styrd verwag die naweek in die Paarl.
HJS vs Oakdale.
@boerboel (Comment #49)
I beg to differ!!
@Kantman (Comment #42)
affies will beat them by 20 plus
Can someone tell me what on earth is lacking in the affies back line?
They have fire power (on paper)
@Kaya 85 (Comment #44)
Gone from a 15 man attractive brand of rugby to a typical old fashioned 10 man blue bulls style
@Smallies (Comment #45)
@Kantman (Comment #42)
@Kantman (Comment #42)
Garsfontein don’t have the same aura of 2022 and 23 teams.
@Kantman (Comment #41)
The challenge for EG is long season …
@Smallies (Comment #40)
On Saturday it is Affies vs Garsfontein. Garsies knows how to beat Affies. And they will believe they can beat Grey for the first time ever at WK. That is why I included them even after 2 losses.
@wanza_15 (Comment #39)
KES seem to be getting stronger.
Jeppe has the wind behind their sails.
EG Jansen is a dark horse that have scrapped a win when needed.
Monnas is Monnas – they will surprise when least expected.
And then Helpmekaar is able to pull a rabbit out of the hat, but also snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Crazy exciting- my money is on EG/Jeppe from those for now.
@wanza_15 (Comment #39)
Nr 1 to four to be decided in August in the cape with nr 5 coming from noord vaal ,my money on Affies
@Kantman (Comment #35)
Interesting post.
I think at this point it’s easier to predict who WON’T be a part of the top 5 versus who actually will.
I think we can almost eliminate some names;
I don’t think KES can afford to lose another game if they’re truly in the conversation for a top 5 finish having lost already to Paarl Boys and GCB comfortably, and that’s a big ask, for them to beat Jeppe twice and Affies. Jeppe-KES first leg is on the 27th of April and i think we can almost certainly count them out if they lose. KES probably a 9th or 10th placed finish.
EG Jansen look an interesting outfit and they too will get their chance against some heavy hitters in Paarl Gim and Monnas. I think they’ll lose to Paarl Gim and may trouble Monnas. I’ll reserve my prediction for that game until closer to the time.
And then Jeppe too. We’ll have a clearer picture by the end of the month because Affies and KES games are both in April. If we can win them both then perhaps a top 5 finish could be on the cards. My modest prediction is that we probably end ranked between 5th and 7th..
@Kaya 85 (Comment #34)
Hopefully they can kick on a little. I did notice it was a different looking Paarl Boys side but hey, you can only play what’s in front of you. They have another winnable game next week against St Albans. Maybe they can build a bit of momentum..
@Kaya 85 (Comment #33)
I agree. Of course these fixture lists are done well in advance and now especially after the win against Grey, there are question marks around everyone we play now. Even next week’s opponents St Stithians. But yes generally I agree with all you say.
Bishops very disappointing v KES. Home team totally dominant, the pack overwhelmed the visitors.
At this stage of the season there are a couple of contenders left for Top 5 at the and of the season. Their second quarter games are going to be huge – who remains and who has the toughest schedule to survive?
KZN: Only DHS stand out for me. None from Eastern Cape
Next games for DHS are Westville, Northwood, Maritzburg, St Charles, Oakdale, HJS, Michaelhouse.
Noordvaal: A number of contenders – Affies, Garsfontein, EG Jansen, Jeppe, KES, Monnas
Affies: Garsfontein, Paarl Gim, HJS, Oakdale, Grey, Jeppe, KES
Garsfontein: Affies, Stellenberg, Grey, Waterkloof, Marais Viljoen, Menlo, Rustenburg
EG Jansen: HTS Mid, Waterkloof, Monnas, Paarl Gim, Stellenberg, Marais Viljoen, Helpmekaar, Noordheuwel, Waterkloof
Jeppe: St Stithians, Westville, KES, Graeme, St Andrews, Northwood, PBHS, Affies, Monnas
KES: St Johns, Parktown, PBHS, Jeppe, St Benedicts, Westville, Affies (easiest?)
Central only Grey: Kwaggas, Paarl Gim, Selborne, Maritzburg, Garsfontein, HJS, Affies, Monnas.
Monnas: Helpmekaar, EG Jansen, PRG, Boland, Menlo, Noordheuwel, Grey, Marais Viljoen
WC: Also a few still remaining. Boland, HJS, Oakdale, PRG, Paarl Gim, Rondebosch, Wynberg
Boland: Paarl Gim, Bishops, Stellenberg, Helpmekaar, Monnas, Wynberg, SACS (their third quarter is brutal)
HJS: Oakdale, Wynberg, PRG, Affies, DHS, Grey, Bishops, Rondebosch
Oakdale: HJS, Stellenberg, Framesby, DHS, Affies, Charlies, Kwaggas, Paarl Gim (also a brutal third quarter).
PRG: Rondebosch, HJS, Monnas, Maritzburg, SACS, Paarl Gim, Wynberg
Paarl Gim: Boland, Affies, Grey, SACS, EG Jansen, Helpmekaar, Rondebosch, PRG, Oakdale
Rondebosch: Milnerton, PRG, SACS, Melkbos, Wynberg, Paarl Gim, HJS, Bishops
Wynberg: Durbanville, HJS, Grey High, Bishops, Rondebosch, Boland, PRG, SACS
@wanza_15 (Comment #32)
Pretoria will take encouragement from that resukt, though Paarl rested 8 big guns, I was told. There bench is still very impressive.
Jeppe too strong for Brandwag. I don’t think these two teams should have been paired…Brandwag numbers must be fairly low, though skilful they looked the size of an u16 team. I’m not saying this to dis them…they tackled bravely…just at least 12 -15 kg per man lighter…
Pretoria Boys 8-24 Paarl Boys
Jeppe 59-6 Brandwag
KES 45-8 Bishops
Westville 25-22 Monnas
Westville probably stands out the most here. Good win for them. They were 22-0 up in fact at some stage.
Dale also beat Parktown by about 12 I believe.
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #27)
yes not convincing- tough challenge vs Oakdale
@Jakes (Comment #22)
Massive, two big packs vs each other. I was still like, jeez that EG No3 is big, not just heavy but muscle-bound. I’ll be watching closely. Good luck!
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #26)
Naas very vocal at the Eldoraigne game on Saturday… trying to psych out the refs
@Snelvuur (Comment #25)
Everything you say is correct.
I am however very hopeful that the team will rise to the occasion on Saturday.
Paarl Boishaai 24- Pretoria Boys High 8.
It was not a game to be remembered.
Boishaai started with 9 grade 11 players.
Very decent shift by Pretoria Boys against Paarl Boys this morning. Massive, massive improvement from the game against Gim. The score probably flatters Paarl Boys who were pretty poor – Oakdale looks a daunting task at the weekend.
@Ploegskaar (Comment #17)
Ek verstaan ! Sterkte vir 06 April , dit gaan groot wedstryd wees !
@Jakkals (Comment #21)
Ek glo hul sal more daai rekord wil breek
@Grasshopper (Comment #20)
EGJansen play Monument 27th April in Noordvaal Cup and then they play Paarl Gim 02 May at Wildeklawer. That it going to be a tough week and real tests for their season.
@Jakes (Comment #18)
@Jakes (Comment #18)
EG in 3rd gear, just need to get into next one, it will happen later in the season. Do you guys play Monnas, if so, that will be epic!
@Jakkals (Comment #14)
I wasn’t there but looked at the photos, the EG pack was far bigger than Glenwood. The EG No3 looks a beast. Glenwood very young so this is character building and a good result for them. I think they will end up Top40 this year which isn’t bad. Really missing Teddy, the massive prop who went to DHS…
@Jakkals (Comment #14)
EGJansen only had two games this year where they looked good against Kempton Park and NoordKaap. Otherwise all their games were just not flowing and looks like they struggling to find their rhythm as you said. A lot were expected about this team in 2024, but not showing it yet. But in 2023 last year was the same, poor start to the season, and their season really suddenly took off with some good wins later. The 2024 team also needs a kicker. They do not have a kicker as they do not convert tries. Yesterday 4 tries no conversations.
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #10)
@Kantman (Comment #9)
Paar beserings en ‘n paar kombinasies getoets soos dit vir my lyk. Ek het my opinies oor spankeuses, struktuur, speelareas en wedstrydbestuur, maar ek is net ‘n oningeligte ondersteuner, so hoop die afrigters en spelers kan dinge gou regstel. 6 April wag Gim
@Kaya 85 (Comment #11)
That score is the other way around….EGJ won. But Glenwood did put up a brave fight. However I got the feeling EGJ were struggling to find a rythm….to be honest I haven’t seen them play as well as people have been talking them up since last year. Hope they reach their potential.
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #5)
Powerful pack, confident slick backs, 14 for Paarl very quick and smart. But I was surprised that KES’ lighter pack, despite taking a few early scrum poundings from the ‘trekker’ call, …that the KES tight five outworked and neutralized Paarl (2nd half score only 3-0). KES’ back play very disappointing, didn’t have a midfield threat. Two late first half tries enough to clinch it, very fast recycling after a long range break through the centre.
Very glad to see Noordheuwel dispense with Kingswood. DHS over Rustenburg so convincingly genuinely surprises me…I hope they are at Wildeklawer again this year.
Glenwood must be pretty strong.
@Ploegskaar (Comment #6)
Wat het geword van jou Landbou trui ?
@Ploegskaar (Comment #6)
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #5)
Harde rugby, goeie wen in die Noorde.
Any other scores available ?
Congratulations to Hilton, deserved winners today. Landbou were unfortunately out-coached and outplayed today by a mature and patient side that played low risk rugby and made far less mistakes
Paarl Boishaai 22 – KES 7
@Pamos (Comment #1)
Not so fast….lots of teams can win ‘on the day’, that’s part of the attraction of SBR
@Beet
Can u confirm that the Bishops v Dale kickoff is 2.15pm, I.e. the main curtain raiser…previous schedules had the Jeppe game as curtain raiser with Bishops much earlier
Well done to St Stithians for inviting Hartpury.
I guess the Voortrekker result has made their season and now they are on a downward spiral.. Sad to see that they could not compose themselves and carry on playing the way they did. Maybe this result would bring them down to earth a little.
