19 January, 2016 beet 1

2016 is an Olympic year. For the first time Sevens will be on the roster. This will significantly boost the profile of the sport around the world as well as in our own backyard. On top of that South Africa who have struggled to win medals of any kind at the Olympics, have a very good chance of standing on the medal-winners podium …

Bulls u19 – 50 contracted players for 2016

10 January, 2016 beet 25

When it comes to announcing the newest members of their rugby fraternity it’s unusual for the Bulls to be slow out of the starting blocks. This time around for whatever reasons, the Bulls have delayed their squad release, even though the last of the kids born in 1997 is over the SARU stipulated minimum contracting age of 18.…

Foothold for College while Westville loses ground

4 January, 2016 beet 1

Maritzburg College has made great strides forward judging by the make-up of the new KwaZulu-Natal High Schools Rugby Association Executive Board, KZN under-18 selectors and under-18 coaches panels. This while fellow KZN rugby powerhouse Westville Boys’ High appears to have taken a step backwards in as far as their influence in the decision-making process is concerned.…

Centurion & Eldoraigne kill two birds with one stone

4 January, 2016 beet 0

A smart joint decision has been made by Centurion and Eldoraigne. They have agreed to have their Tuks Reeks match in March double as a Beeld Bulls Macro B-league encounter. As a result the two Pretoria Co-eds avoid having to play each other twice via scheduled matches. There is however no guarantee that they won’t meet during the knockout phase of either cup competition.

2 Grant Khomo under-16 teams for hosts WP

9 December, 2015 beet 1

It’s an overworked complaint on the blog but does it ever get old? No it doesn’t! It’s just logical that given the depth of schoolboy rugby talent existing in their region, Western Province should have two representative teams at each and every one of the July school holiday provincial youth weeks. The 2016 Grant Khomo Week takes place at Paarl Gymnasium and two WP teams will be participating. With the 50:50 quota seemingly having the least impact on the overall standard of play of teams along the Cape coastal belt , the next question is what are the chances of an all-WP final at Grant Khomo Week 2016? Here are the Day 1 fixtures:

FIELD SCHOOL SCHOOL
A Blue Bulls Limpopo
A KwaZulu-Natal Pumas
A Western Province XV Griffons
A Golden Lions Free State
A Western Province Boland
B Zimbabwe Border CD
B Valke Griquas CD
B SWD Namibia
B Border Leopards
B Eastern Province Griquas

Drostdy North-South 2016

21 November, 2015 beet 2

At first sight, HTS Drostdy’s North-South Festival with match days on Monday 21 March 2015 and Thursday 24 March 2015, does not look like it will present the Drostdy players with too much of a challenge. There will however be some good matchups for spectators to enjoy.…
