It is just over 20 years to the day since South Africa gained readmission to the international rugby arena. Rugby has changed a fair bit in terms of the rules and the way it is played in that time but remains a game loved passionately by many South Africans both young and old. It was therefore interesting to compare some of the statistics of the first Bok team selected back in 1992 to those of the current SA Schools team.

With the 2012 Kwazulu-Natal season done and dusted, it would be nice to get a feel for the players coming through from the under-15 ranks that are likely to represent their respective schools at under-16A level in 2013. Obviously it’s too far off to expect accuracy at this stage, so the aim is really just to obtain a list of contenders for starting berths and if possible get from contributors an  idea of who they feel the standout performers were during this 2012 under-15 season.

After much delay, the SA High Performance under-16 Squad for 2012 is likely to be announced either today or tomorrow.

According to sources 4 KwaZulu-Natal Grant Khomo players, Kurt Webster (DHS, flank), Morne Joubert (Glenwood, centre), Kwazi Khanyile (Glenwood, scrumhalf) and Percy Mngadi (Glenwood, prop) are likely to appear on the list of names released.…
